Embracing the lifestyle shift!

Getting started is a daunting task. There is so much information on how to lead a healthier lifestyle out there that it’s almost impossible to know where to begin. The first thing that I encourage my clients to recognize is that their current lifestyle choices and habits got them to where they are, and change only comes when those fundamental components shift. We must find an alignment between our choices, habits and the life we want to have.

While simple enough to understand, this concept is terrifying. You might be thinking to yourself, “well I like having something sweet after every meal,” or, “I just don’t have time to exercise,” or, “I could never do what he/she/they does/do.” It’s no secret that regular exercise, eating well, getting adequate sleep and stepping up the hydration will lead you into a more comfortable life. These habits also aid in the prevention of chronic diseases, chronic pain, depression, anxiety and self-doubt. The science is straightforward, it’s the shift that seems impossible!

We all also know that there are no quick fixes. If fad diets and fat burners really worked, we’d all be walking around looking like supermodels and professional athletes without ever breaking a sweat.

Achieving your goals takes work, time and patience. Feeling better takes dedication, trial and error, and a willingness to change. It is usually challenging, occasionally discouraging, and frequently frustration, but boy howdy is it worth it. Not only will achieving a given goal boost your self confidence, give you an overwhelming feeling of satisfaction, and unleash a new lease on life, it will show you how wonderful it feels to have worked for it.

This is my favorite part about embracing the changes. Yes, I want to help you hone in on your goals and achieve them, but I always want to help you fall in love with the process first. The feeling you get after putting in an excellent session at the gym, the comfort that comes with a healthy gut, and the sky rocketing levels of energy that come from regular exercise and adequate sleep and hydration. I strive to help my clients achieve balance. To me, balance means feeling comfortable in my body, capable of daily tasks, ready to slip into a deep sleep when night comes, and happy to enjoy a cocktail and a pizza in the company of loved ones.

I don’t believe in the all-or-nothing approach to fitness, and I certainly don’t believe in diets that eliminate entire food groups. I don’t believe in cheat days or abstaining from your favorite meals because they aren’t clean. I believe in a whole approach to health and wellness, where you are as excited to get a little movement in as you are to eat out with friends.

Humans were designed to move and be social. We have taste buds and muscles. We are builders, growers, lovers, providers, thinkers and eaters. There is a simple way to live a blissfully fulfilling lives where activity, relaxation, compassion, discipline and enjoyment are balanced - and I can help you get there.
